• article that summarizes the current state of understanding on a topic
• called also review articles or overview articles
• review journals specilizes in review articles
• reader of a review, needs and expert review, because they could have missed some important details
• teachers give this as a task to students often
• 2021 research show that review articles are cited more than the once mentioned in the review itself
