- common for master and post-graduate students in their theses and scientific articles

- called also review articles or overview articles
- review journals specilizes in review articles
- reader of a review, needs and expert review, because they could have missed some important details
- teachers give this as a task to students often
- 2021 research show that review articles are cited more than the once mentioned in the review itself
